DIRECTIONS

COMMENTARY

  1. Leaving the Start Point at Fleet Feet shoe store, turn right on Farmington Ave. and proceed to Lasalle Rd. Turn right.
West Hartford center, though not large, is home to 140 specialty shops. On Tu./Th./Sat. from 8-1 is a Farmer’s Market. Historic center green.
  1. Turn left onto Ellsworth, which ends at So. Main St. Turn right on So. Main.
 
  1. Proceed down So. Main. You will pass the Noah Webster House/Museum of West Hartford History. CHECK POINT #1: What is the number of the Noah Webster house?
Noah Webster House. Restores 18th Century farmhouse shows how Webster’s Family lived in the 1770s. Early editions of Webster’s first American Dictionary and Blue-backed Speller can be seen. Open Sat. 1-4. Admission is $5.
  1. Continue down So. Main until you come to the Rockledge Country Club on your right.
The Rockledge Golf Course is one of the U.S. premier 18-hole public golf courses. In the distance you can see Mount Southington, Avon Mountain, and the UConn Medial Center.
  1. Turn left onto ledgewood Rd for 1 block. Then turn left onto Webster Hill.
Webster Hill – one of the highest sots in West Hartford.
  1. Walk 6 blocks and turn right onto Westbrook Rd. Walk 3 blocks and turn left onto Overbrook Rd. for 1 block.
 
  1. Take a right onto Park Rd. and a left onto Taymond Rd.
 
  1. Cross Boulevard, turning right, and walk down just short of Trout Brook Dr. Take the asphalt wooded trail to Farmington Ave.
At 950 Trout Brook is the Science Museum of Connecticut, a hands-on museum that explores science, nature and technology. Planetarium with daily star shows, laser shows; UTC sildlife sanctuary, marine left touch-tank, Computer Laboratory, Kids Factory, Mathmagical Toys, World Weather Window. Great fr children "of all ages."
  1. Turn left on Farmington Ave. Turn right onto North Main St. CHECK POINT #2: Not the nationality of the Baptist church on No. Main St.
Old Center Cemetery – since early 1700’s; graves of Webster, Hooker, Sedwick, Talcott families.
  1. Proceed 5 blocks to Fern St. and turn left.
 
  1. Continue to Fernridge Park on your left. Cut through the park to Grennan Rd., go a block on Grennan, and turn left onto Brace.
 
  1. Take a right onto Stanley St. and then a left onto Farmington Ave. Proceed a few blocks to the Fleet Feet shoe store, the Start Point.
